Educator Naveen Cunha

Congratulations to Bryan ISD longtime educator, Naveen Cunha!

On September 5, 2023, The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) selected Naveen as a FINALIST for Secondary Teacher of the Year for the entire State of Texas.

Out of the 370,000 teachers within the state, Mr. Cunha has proven to be one of the best! We could not be more proud to have him teaching our students and representing Bryan ISD with this prestigious state-wide recognition. Congratulations, Mr. Cunha!

He is one of three finalists for Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Cunha has most recently been an 8th grade Robotics 1 teacher at Stephen F. Austin Middle School and the district’s coordinator for the Science Technology Engineering and Math Academy (STEM). Receiving multiple awards prior to being named as a finalist for Teacher of the Year, Mr. Cunha has received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (PAEMST), he was selected as a NASA Educator Astronaut finalist, he received the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship award and was awarded the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) Teacher Excellence Award. Mr. Cunha states, "I became a teacher because of my desire to be a life-learner and to share that passion with others”.

This belief could not be more evident in the way he interacts, teaches and inspires students daily in Bryan ISD. Already named the Region 6 Teacher of the Year for 2024, we are proud to have Naveen Cunha on staff and representing Bryan ISD as a finalist for the Texas Teacher of the Year!

Cunha holds a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master's from Texas A&M University and has been in education for more than 30 years.

We could not be more proud to have him teaching our students and representing Bryan ISD with this prestigious state-wide recognition. Congratulations, Mr. Cunha!
